Older Radeon cards join the list
RX 6000 support is based on an adaptation of the INT8 model used for RX 7000. AMD also announces support for Ryzen AI Max, Ryzen AI 9 and selected Ryzen Z2 chips. Rollout on Xbox Series X|S is planned for later.
On PC, this release accompanies the Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 driver. For handheld consoles, AMD says timing may vary by device: chip compatibility alone therefore does not confirm immediate availability.
An update best judged in motion
AMD promises better visual quality than FSR 3.1. Its practical value will be most apparent in demanding scenes: fine details, moving objects and rapid changes in the image.
Hardware compatibility and in-game availability
The mobile list is more specific than simply “Ryzen Z2”: AMD names Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2 Extreme and Ryzen Z2 A. The company uses a version adapted to portable devices' constraints. Xbox Series X|S support is planned for later and is not part of this PC release.
Upscaling reconstructs an image from a lower-resolution internal render. It should not be confused with intermediate frame generation. To compare two versions, keep the same output resolution and quality mode, then also examine moving edges and details revealed behind an object. Having a compatible GPU does not mean every game automatically uses the new reconstruction.
Key points
Hardware named by AMD | Status announced on 20 October 2026 |
|---|---|
Radeon RX 6000 | FSR Upscaling 4.1 support, adapted INT8 model |
Ryzen AI Max | Expanded support |
Ryzen AI 9 | Model adapted to mobile hardware |
Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme / Z2 Extreme / Z2 A | Support announced; timing depends on the device |
Xbox Series X|S | Arrival planned for later |
Key takeaways
Equivalent settings will also need to be compared. Frame rate alone tells us neither how stable reconstruction is nor how clear the image remains during play. Nevertheless, Radeon owners looking to keep their cards should pay attention to this expanded support.
